Foxy Brown
Foxy Brown, born Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand on September 6, 1978, in Brooklyn, New York, is a Trinidadian-American rapper known for her influential role in East Coast hip hop. She gained fame with her debut album “Ill Na Na” (1996), which featured the hit single “I’ll Be” featuring Jay-Z. The album was certified platinum and peaked at number seven on the Billboard 2001.
She continued her success with her second album “Chyna Doll” (1998), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making her the second female rapper to achieve this milestone after Lauryn Hill. Her third album, “Broken Silence” (2001), peaked at number five on the Billboard 200 and earned her a Grammy Award nomination for the song “Na Na Be Like”.
Foxy Brown was also a member of the hip-hop supergroup The Firm, which included Nas, AZ, and Cormega (later replaced by Nature). The group’s self-titled album was released in 1997 and peaked at number one on the Billboard 2001.
Despite facing legal issues and a hiatus from releasing new music, Foxy Brown made a comeback with the mixtape “Brooklyn Don Diva” in 2008. She has been working on a visual album titled “King Soon Come”, which was slated for release in 2019 but has since been delayed.
