MC Lyte

MC Lyte, whose real name is **Lana Michelle Moorer**, is a trailblazing American rapper, songwriter, DJ, actress, and entrepreneur. Born on October 11, 1970, in Queens, New York, she is considered one of the pioneers of female rap.

She first gained fame in the late 1980s with her critically acclaimed debut album **”Lyte as a Rock”** (1988), which included hits like **”10% Dis”** and **”Paper Thin”**. MC Lyte continued to make history with her second album **”Eyes on This”** (1989), which became one of the first albums by a female solo rapper to chart on the Billboard 200.

Throughout her career, MC Lyte has achieved numerous milestones, including being the first female rapper to release a full solo album, the first solo woman rapper to achieve a gold certification from the RIAA with her 1993 single **”Ruffneck”**, and the first female artist to perform hip hop at the White House in 2014.

She has collaborated with many mainstream artists such as Janet Jackson, Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott, and Beyoncé. MC Lyte has also been recognized for her philanthropic efforts, founding the **Hip Hop Sisters Foundation** to support and mentor young women in the music industry.
